Behind the Scenes: Starting half british
Share
Starting a brand is never as straightforward as it looks from the outside. There are late nights, endless decisions, and a fair amount of trial and error. But there’s also something energising about building something you truly believe in — from the ground up.
The idea
half british began with a simple question: what if essentials could be better? Not more complicated, not trend-driven — just better. Better fibres. Better design. Better experience.
The process
There’s nothing glamorous about spreadsheets, supplier emails, or chasing samples. But those are the steps that turn an idea into something real.
Every detail matters — from finding the right fibres to debating whether the shade of navy feels timeless enough. It’s all part of shaping a brand that feels considered.
The challenges
I won’t pretend it’s easy. Manufacturing delays, endless back-and-forths, even just deciding what not to do — it’s all part of the journey. Some days it feels like progress moves at a crawl.
But every time I see a finished pair of socks, I’m reminded why it’s worth it.
Why I share this
Because half british isn’t meant to feel distant or corporate. It’s personal. It’s me learning, testing, and trying to create something that reflects the values I care about: refinement, longevity, dignity in essentials.
The beginning
Our first products — the everyday sock and the lounge sock — are just the start. They carry with them every decision, every late-night note, and every small victory from this journey so far.
If you’re reading this, you’re part of that story too. And I’m grateful you’re here, right at the beginning.
